Preface

I recalled some years ago I first met Chia Hui through the introduction by young artists Cui Ying and Jacky Long. In a cozy afternoon, we visited her home. We discussed art, life, and saw her paintings there. She shared things in her life and her view of art with us. As I am from southern Fujian, which is on the other side of Taiwan Strait, I felt somewhat close when I heard her accent and her narration about local people and customs of Taiwan. From her talk I can felt that she is a person full of love for life and art. I felt that her painting is inseparable from her admirable family life. Her passion in art, life and nature developed her appreciation for impressionism’s depiction of nature. She paints what she sees and feels in life with her brush without a trace. Painting in her personal studio “Spectrum Studio” also became part of her routine. From her perspective, life is art and art is life.

Since then I started to know more of her paintings that depicted natural sceneries in Kinmen, Xiamen, Greece, Hokkaido, Nepal, Taiwan, Guangzhou through impressionistic techniques. It was as if the paintings are her travel notes and reflections. Later I read some of her poetry and prose from her travel which reconfirmed my understandings. Her articles and paintings brought out the best of each other. They are her feelings and artistic insights toward life and nature. It is fair to say that art is part of her life.

The paintings exhibited this time mostly include beautiful nature like sunshine, blue sky, clouds, sea, woods, and flowers. All these paintings with warm sunshine and vivid colors reflect her impression of life and art. The theme of the exhibition “Impression of Life – a voyage of visual arts by Chia Hui Kuo” honestly summarizes Chia Hui’s artistic style. It also set a record of her journey of art. Wish her continuous progress in life and the journey of art. Never stop exploring and sharing more pretty scenes with us!
